Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $15,000 to USA small businesses and nonprofit organizations to support efforts to safely reopen during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. A portion of grant funds will be allocated to benefit diverse-owned businesses, including businesses owned by minorities, women, veterans, individuals with disablities, and LGBTQ individuals. Special consideration will be given to businesses located in Main Street America districts.

The HartBeat of Main Street Grant Program will fund solutions that help small business owners respond and adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic, and also help to revitalize and strengthen older and historic downtown commercial districts.

Eligible grant expenses include but are not limited to:

  • Physical improvements to business space to meet relevant reopening requirements implemented because of COVID-19
  • Equipment to comply with public health and safety guidelines (i.e., touchless payment methods, automatic door open sensors, or disposable menus)
  • Fees associated with expanding the business to e-commerce sales
  • Other professional services, such as business plan modifications
  • Rent, payroll, and other operating expenses

Estimated Size of Grant:

Grants of $5,000 to $15,000 will be awarded.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Businesses must meet the following criteria to apply:
- The business must be a business entity in good standing in the state in which it was formed and the state in which it does business.
- The applicant’s business has a “brick-and-mortar” location and operates in an older or historic main street, downtown, or commercial district in the U.S.
- The applicant’s business employs 20 or fewer full-time employees, including the owner.
- The applicant’s business has been in operation since January 1, 2019.
- The applicant is an owner of the business and is 18 years of age or older.

Nonprofits are eligible to apply. Sole proprietors or business owners with no employees are eligible to apply.

First round awardees are not eligible for the second round of the grant program, even if you apply for a different business.

Multiple business owners may apply for one business.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications for Round 2 of the HartBeat of Main Street will be accepted beginning at 9:00 AM PT October 22, 2020 through 4:59 PM PT October 29, 2020.

Applicants will be notified about the status of their submission in early December via the email provided in their application.

Grants will be awarded on a competitive and first-come, first-served basis.

If you applied for the first round of the grant program and did not receive funding you may re-apply if you still meet all eligibility criteria. You will need to re-submit an application for round 2, though you should be able to use most of the same information from your first application.
