Awards to USA full-time K-12 teachers and educational staff to support creative projects in classrooms throughout the country. Funding must be used to further the projects within the school or school system. The funding source intends to grant at least one award in each of the 50 United States, provided one or more qualified applications are received from each state.

Each year, 50 educators are selected. Three of those are chosen to receive the top awards.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Each year, 50 educators are selected to receive $2,000. Three of those are chosen to receive the top awards of an additional $5,000, $10,000 and $25,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants to the Voya Unsung Heroes Awards Program must be:
- Employed by an accredited K-12 public or private school located in the United States.
- Full-time educators, teachers, principals, paraprofessionals, or classified staff with effective and innovative projects that improve student learning.

All K-12 education professionals, whether or not they are clients of Voya Financial® are eligible. Non-profit groups that are not schools are not eligible, i.e., 501(c), etc.

Indirect costs or administrative fees should not be paid or withheld from the grant award.

Timeline:
- The application deadline has been extended to 3:00 p.m. Central Time on May 22, 2020.
- All applicants will receive notification via email by June 30, 2020 with the status of their application.
- The Educators Advisory Board, consisting of teachers and education administrators, will select recipients of the top three awards in the summer of 2020.
- By Fall 2020, all finalists will be notified whether or not they have been selected to receive a bonus award.
- Payments for awards will be presented no later than December 2020 to recipients by local agents of Voya. Award checks are made payable jointly to the recipient and to his or her school.

Applications must be verified by the school superintendent, principal, or applicant's immediate supervisor. If selected as a finalist, the school official will be contacted to verify your employment status and proposed project.

Previous recipients of the Unsung Heroes Awards Program top three awards are eligible to apply for another award; however, applicants may receive a top award one time only.
