Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Opportunity for USA young artists between the ages of 15 and 18 to earn up to $10,000 and receive recognition and support in performing, visual, or literary arts. In addition to the cash awards, artists will obtain training and mentorship, national recognition, and nominations for additional award programs.

YoungArts recognizes hundreds of the country’s most promising artists with national awards each year. Beyond award designation, winners have the opportunity (space permitting) to participate in life changing programs that consist of learning experiences with some of the most accomplished artists in each of the ten disciplines. They are able to connect with a rich network of peers and showcase work via performances and exhibitions. YoungArts winners join the ranks of 20,000+ YoungArts alumni who have attended many of the top universities and conservatories across the country and have become leading professionals in their fields.

The YoungArts competition includes ten disciplines across the visual, literary, design, and performing arts. They are:

Classical Music

Classical Music is open to orchestral instrumentalists, pianists, and composers. The strongest auditions demonstrate excellence in the craft of playing or writing, the ability to reveal the nuances of each work, versatility, and a truly personal style.

Dance

Dance accepts auditions in ballet, choreography, hip hop, jazz, modern/contemporary, tap, and world dance forms. The strongest auditions demonstrate a clear technique, a strong unique voice, and a creatively sophisticated sense of nuance and range.

Design Arts

Design Arts accepts portfolios in architecture, interior, product, graphic, and fashion design. Portfolios should demonstrate original thinking, and an ability to effectively materialize ideas, from concept sketches to final design.

Film

Film encompasses narrative, documentary, experimental, and animation filmmaking. The strongest films are well edited, showcase original and clear storytelling, while demonstrating strong elements of character and theme.

Jazz

Jazz is open to composers and instrumentalists. Strong auditions showcase the artist’s individual work, technical expertise, and highlight the artist’s unique and original sound (if you are a jazz vocalist, please see voice).

Photography

Photography portfolios demonstrate a mastery of the ability to take risks, develop an idea through a series of images, showcase a range of experimentation, and clearly articulate visual and conceptual ideas.

Theater

Theater encompasses classical and contemporary spoken as well as musical theater (optional). The strongest auditions demonstrate range, a commitment to craft, and illustrate the actor’s ability to make clear, nuanced performance choices that best showcase their distinct voice.

Visual Arts

Visual Arts includes a broad range of fine art including multi-media and performance art. The strongest portfolios convey the artist’s ability to develop and materialize ideas while demonstrating a distinct vision (if your work includes fashion, product, graphic design, or architecture please see the Design discipline).

Voice

Voice encompasses classical, jazz, popular voice, and singer-songwriter. Strong auditions should demonstrate a mastery of technique, the ability to connect to material with a unique personal style, and have the ability to convey the ideas, themes, and narrative of each song.

Writing

Writing encompasses creative nonfiction, novel, play or script, poetry, short story, and spoken word. The strongest submissions demonstrate a sense of inventiveness, show attention to the complexities and technical aspects of language, and have a clear, original, and distinct point of view.

Some disciplines also have specific categories. For more information, please see the URL for Full Text below.
